KTU CVPR Lab. Contactless Palmprint Database
Description of the KTU CVPR Lab. Contactless Palmprint Database:
The KTU CVPR Lab. Contactless Palmprint Database contains 1752 color images corresponding to 145 different palms in BMP image format. In that, 580 images were used as training set, and 1172 images were also used as test set.
Each image in the database was taken using low cost CCD camera with resolutions 768 x 576 pixels at 75 dpi. Number of the samples per individual in the database were restricted between 6 and 30. Average number of images for each palm is 12.
The images in the database is collected with different scenarios:
(1) The environment brightness was changed by decreasing/increasing the light intensity in the room to reveal the invariability on the external brightness.
(2) The users are asked to present their hands toward the capturing device by changing the hand-camera distance to construct a database with different shaped hand images.
They are also asked to present their hands in various pose and translations:
- strongly bending their hands downward,
- changing the space between the fingers,
- excessively moving their hands in the forward/backward, and the left/right directions,
- different hand rotations to right and left sides.
(3) The objects which have similar textures and colors such as faces, other hands and complex textured objects were added to the background (cluttered backgrounds).
(4) In the meantime, we captured the images at different times during the day so as to acquire natural differences on the external lighting conditions.
(5) Furthermore, the users did not remove the rings or other ornaments from their fingers while the hand images were taken.
(6) The KTU-Contactless Palm DB also includes hand images which have partly viewed palms or occlusions to the palmprint regions.

The comparison of the KTU-Contactless Palm DB with the widely used international contactless Palm DB - IITD DB - is shown in the Table 1.
